Here We Grow Day Camp Completed!
St. Paul Lutheran Church held their VBS Day Camp “Here We Grow” from August 4 – 7. We finished with a picnic and program on Thursday evening for all of the children and their families. We had an average of 39 kids in the full day program and 10 in the half day program.
Children from age 4 through those entering 6th grade had an “awesome” time, as one of the 8 year olds described it. Each day we had games and crafts, songs and snacks. Children entering 2nd grade through 6th grade stayed the entire day and were provided with lunch. The entire program was open to all children at no cost. We had children from 6 different churches and some who had no church home.
The Camp Luther staff, helped by St. Paul adults and teens, ran the all-day program. They were full of energy and really engaged the children. The children learned more about God and more about themselves through challenge games, crafts, and songs. They did tie-dye T-shirts and more crafts. Lunch was made for all by some of the women of St. Paul church. Each day the children went home with a take-home gift to help remind them about God and His love for us.
The half day program for younger children was run by St. Paul members. They learned about why we have Christmas and Easter, as well as learning about Noah’s Ark and Zacchaeus. They also decorated a T-shirt and they made a nativity set, wall hanging and more. Each day the children went home with a take-home gift to help remind them about God and His love for us.
We also had an evening activity for high school youth and for confirmation students. Both evenings were a Bring-A Friend event. The kids that we had Monday evening had dinner, games, and Bible study with devotion. Even a little rain did not ruin their fun. On Tuesday we had the confirmation students and their friends. They also had games, dinner, and Bible study with devotion.
Thursday evening was a picnic supper and program for all children and their families. We had 87 adults and children, along with four infants. The supper was great with time for food and conversation. The program highlighted the children and what they learned during the week.
A huge THANK YOU goes out to all who helped in any way. Special thanks to our preschool leader, Sharon B. Special thanks to our cooks, Verna W, Bev A, and Mary L who made the “bestest” food. Special thanks to John and Cathy E and Geroge L for opening their homes to Camp Luther staff so they had a comfortable place to stay. Thanks to all those who were there, all week or even for a day or two, to help with the kids. Thanks to those who donated supplies and/or money, those who sent their prayers, and to the parents and grandparents who sent their children.
